Manchester United Ready To Move For £16m AC Milan Forward Huntelaar

Manchester United are in the running to sign AC Milan’s forgotten man Klaas Jan Huntelaar. Sir Alex Ferguson will apparently consider a move for the former Real Madrid man as he looks to beef up his attacking options for the coming season. New San Siro boss Massimiliano Allegri does not see the Dutch international as part of his first team plans.

The Old Trafford boss is a long term admirer of the former Ajax goal machine but must first confirm funding for new additions that Chief Executive David Gill has promised would be made available this summer. Ferguson has been looking to bring in players to help share the burden of goalscoring responsibility with England man Wayne Rooney and to that end brought in Mexican youngster Javier Hernandez who has impressed so much that he may have fought his way into first team reckoning earlier than the wily Scot had at first imagined.

However Huntelaar is still very much a player the Premier League side would like to snap up and he appears to have no future at the Serie A club he joined last summer. The 26 year old failed to make an impact last term when injury and a spell of poor form left him consigned to the bench for much of the time. The tall rangy forward managed just 11 domestic starts but still netted seven goals.

That lack of first team action greatly affected Huntelaar’s chances of making an impact at the World Cup where he was used very sparingly by Bert van Marwijk despite his excellent international record where he has netted 16 times in 36 caps.

The likes of Chelsea, Aston Villa and Juventus have been linked with a move for the player who has been on Ferguson’s radar for some time. Whilst in both Amsterdam and Madrid the Man United boss had been strongly linked with a move but perhaps this summer it will be third time lucky?
